Rise Online: Return of the Legendary Player

Chapter 246 The Evil Spirit (Part 2)

The Evil Spirit’s explosion was so powerful that it threw Kaizen several meters backwards.

When he opened his eyes again, everything around him was blurred. His ears were ringing, and his whole body was aching. More than half of his HP was ripped out at once, which caused the stun effect for long seconds.

‘Is it over, was just doing that enough?’ Kaizen wondered as he regained his senses, and the answer to that question was obviously ‘no’.

As his vision slowly became less blurred, he looked around him, thus realizing that he was still in that bizarre room with liquid and red meat.

In the next instant, he heard rumbling coming from above him, and when he looked up to where the ceiling should have been, he saw the sky of gray clouds that he had seen through the windows. However, now he could see that there was a colossal hole in the clouds and this hole glowed brightly like a portal.

A moment later, two humanoid figures appeared in this gray sky, flying like birds, or rather, like airplanes. They were very fast.

One of these flying people was a woman with long black hair that had no skin, thus showing a really scary look with her muscles showing to anyone. Somehow, Kaizen knew immediately that this woman was the Evil Spirit, not only from the terrifying looks, but also from the aura.

‘It can’t be… ‘How? How is she in that form?’ Kaizen wondered after he used the <Analyzing Eye> to make sure it was really her. He then looked at the ground and couldn’t find the candelabra. ‘That means…’

Kaizen looked up at the sky again and saw that the other figure flying in the sky was a man, and he seemed to be hunting the Evil Spirit. Although this man was too much to identify his exact feature, the player immediately recognized his lean silhouette. This strange man was the old man he had seen for a second in the small cottage in which he had found the candelabra.

Instinctively, Kaizen was awestruck. He expected something would happen when he threw the chandelier, he just didn’t imagine that he would end up summoning the old man.

Kaizen was even more fascinated after seeing how strong this old man was. Even if Kaizen didn’t have the <Analyzing Eye>, he could have noticed this just by watching this being fighting in the sky above him.

Very long black chains were coming out of the Evil Spirit’s back, propelling and pulling her backwards, also serving as arms to defend herself against the old man who was actively attacking her.

Watching the battle between these two beings was like watching the battle of two legends. They both cut the long distance between them in the sky with fast and intense movements, generating explosions of air around them, and whenever their blows collided, a wave of winds threw Psyker’s hair back.

The Evil Spirit remained defensive at first, but soon the opportunities arose for her to start attacking. Annoyed, she used her black chains, wrapped with black liquid, and tried to hit the old man from several directions at once. At that moment, the old spirit defended himself with a bluish spherical shield around him that, besides protecting him as well, caused the chains to disintegrate upon touching it.

This caused the woman to lose her mind completely. She opened her mouth and, displaying her pointed teeth, screamed voraciously, and her shrill scream echoed for hundreds of meters in that world.

“ARGGHHHHHHHHHH! DAMN IT!!! DIE, DIE, DIE!”

The old man became even more attentive as he watched his opponent lose her posture. Thanks to all his wisdom, he knew that an angry enemy was just as dangerous as an enemy capable of keeping calm during battle, for the angry enemy puts everything to waste, even life itself, without being aware of it.

And Kaizen realized the hard way that the Evil Spirit’s scream was not only an impulse of anger, but also a move.

The chains coming out of the woman’s back multiplied and stuck exactly where she was in her spherical shape, and when that happened, the red liquid around the chains began to absorb everything around them.

The veins in all the walls of the room began to pulse at a very fast pace.

The floor and walls gradually began to turn gray, and when at last the chains came off the floor, there were semi-transparent people wedged into each of their ends.

‘Spirits!’ Kaizen thought, startled, as he saw the chains rising into the sky again. ‘What the fuck is going on here?’

The legion of spirits, which the woman was now controlling with her chains in the air, kept wailing.

“No, I don’t want any more pain…”

“Ah… Please don’t do this to my daughter…”

“I want… peace…!”

“Use me, not… my family.

“Don’t do this!”

“Let us go! We don’t want that.”

“I want peace…”

“Someone, please… help us.”

Most of the spirits were screaming, and the Evil Spirit was controlling them as if they were part of a flock and she was the shepherd.

The old man, frightened by this use of the spirits, was paralyzed.

The Evil Spirit took advantage that her opponent was standing in the air and commanded her legion to attack him.

The spirits began to whine more, only they did not hesitate to obey the orders.

“I’m sorry about that!”

“It’s for my family!”

“The pain… I don’t want that again…”

“Don’t fight back, please!”

The attacks of these ghosts were not very strong, but they were numerous, so the old man did not even have time to react and only defended himself. Besides, he felt that it was not fair to strike back against poor tormented souls.

However, soon one of the legion’s spirits caught Kaizen’s attention because, unlike all the others, he was standing still. The moment Psyker laid his eyes on this spirit, he immediately recognized it. The spirit in question was the same ghost he had encountered a few minutes ago, the one that had trapped him in an illusion.

The old man also seemed to have recognized him, because he was looking at the boy with surprise.

“ARGHH! Go on… useless! You need to… redeem yourself!” The Evil Spirit exclaimed and pushed the boy forward with his chains.

At last, the boy began to move towards the old man. At first, he was slow, but after he raised his head, he flew like a hawk. However, when he approached the tornado of spirits that surrounded the old man’s shield, he didn’t attack the Evil Spirit target, but his own kind.

The boy began pushing the spirits back and exchanging punches with some.

“What are you doing, boy? In order not to feel pain, we have to stop you!”

“Don’t interrupt us! I don’t want her to do that to the family again!”

“Maybe, if we can defeat him for her, we can have peace!”

“He’s my grandfather! Stop, please!” The boy screamed, desperate, only he wasn’t strong enough to equal dozens of other ghosts.

Despite the constant ordeals of the little spirit, nothing could make the others stop. They were spirits that were cursed and tormented by the fear and pain of being punished again by the Evil Spirit.

Thus, Kaizen understood that the spirits had power of autonomy, they just didn’t have the courage to do it. Moreover, he also understood his role in this battle.

There were still a few chains stuck to the floor of the chamber where Kaizen was and these things seemed to be pumping energy to move the chains that held the spirits. That being the case, Kaizen approached them, grabbed them with his bare hands while imbuing them with <Telekinesis> and tried to break them at exactly that point so that the bond would be severed.

The moment Kaizen touched the chains, a notification resounded in his mind.

[The ‘Blood Curse’ effect was applied].

Kaizen began to receive 1 HP damage per second just from touching the chains, which had just a bit of the red liquid in them. However, that wasn’t the biggest of his worries. His MP bar was decreasing rapidly and since it was already halved, this was not a good sign.

‘I haven’t learned to fly yet, and my <Telekinesis> doesn’t reach up there in the sky, so all I can do is that. I have to be able to do at least that, there’s no other option.’ Kaizen thought, gritting his teeth voraciously as he used as much strength as he had.

Seconds later, cracks finally began to appear in the chains and it didn’t take much longer for them to finally break.
